Robo intro and background

Welcome everyone -- Robo here. Here is just a bit about myself and my focus on this site.

I am a heavy user of technology, and especially use it for Christian learning and training. This has been a huge blessing over the past decade and continues to this day. I hope I can encourage you to use it to do the same.

My beginnings on this path were in the early nineties when frustration with poor church teaching drove me to David Pawson, Arnold Fruchtenbaum, John MacArthur, Francis Schaeffer and many other's cassette tapes (remember those dreadful things?). The numerous messages I listened to, over and over again, gave me an insatiable hunger for more of God's Word from the great Bible teachers that have been gifted to the church.

In the early days of the internet I used a dial-up connection to access streaming Real Audio sermons. These downloaded as they were playing and came thru a PC in the office at the rear of the garage, out of the sound card into a small *** Smith FM transmitter, then at radio frequency (~100MHz) to a radio in the house. Just tune the radio and all is working.

Well almost.

In those days the internet was notorious for hanging up, dropping connections, dropping streaming links and so on, so often the dishes (which I did for about 40 minutes every night) had to wait as I went to the garage to restart the connection.

Then came the download manager which perhaps I will talk about another time. Needless to say, this solved many of my problems because this manager would automagically grab sermons and lectures for me all night long for listening to on the train, while doing dishes, driving in the car and so on. Wonderful eh!

Next came the Archos Jukebox Recorder MP3 player which I imported from the USA. Compared to my iPod, this device was terrible but it did scratch the itch in those days.

Well, that's enough 4 now.  I'm off to do some gardening whilst listening to a Greg Bahnsen lecture :-)
